This past Tuesday, July 21st the United Stated Patent Office awarded Apple with the patent for the box that the iPhone is packaged in. The patent was filed June 25th, 2007 and since then has been made more environmentally friendly, but the design is relatively unchanged.
It’s always amazed me how deep Apple is willing to go when it comes to protecting every idea they have, apparently right down to the box that it comes in. Something else I find cool is that among the names of inventors listed you’ll notice the name Steve Jobs.
Companies like RIM could learn a lot from Apple. Instead of paying out huge settlements for patent infringement, simply apply for the patent first!
When they released the iPhone in 2007 there were over 200 patents filed to protect as many features and design ideas as possible.
If nothing else, Apple is great when it comes to thoroughly protecting their ideas and not hesitating to attack those who attempt to infringe on them.
