Yet Another Macbook Pro Replacement

Yet Another Macbook Pro Replacement

For those of you who follow me on occasion, you’ll know that Apple keeps sending me defective Macbook Pros. It started last year and has managed to persevere through 2009 as well. I received a replacement for my Macbook Pro on July 14th and was ecstatic. The new machine is now in it’s 3rd incarnation of the Unibody style, so I was confident that Apple had worked out the kinks from my first gen MBP Unibody from October 2008.

I was wrong… Inside the unit works great, offering superior performance to its predecessor, however, the shell of this recent replacement MBP is warped. When sitting on a level surface the MBP rocks left to right, which is really annoying. Another problem, which I have experienced in the past with a previous replacement, is squeaky keys. And believe me when I say that squeaky is more like a high pitched shriek.

Click Here to See the Wobble – unfortunately, you can’t really hear the shriek of the i key. I’ve been pounding the hell out of it to try and get rid of the squeak. Somewhat successful I might add.

I called the rep at Apple who processed this replacement and 8 days later, no response. I finally got fed up and decided to call Apple customer service. After some explaining they apologized repeatedly, offered to replace my replacement and send me a GWG (good will gesture). The GWG is nothing huge, something in the $100 range, so I opted for the Bamboo Tablet.

In the end, Apple is pretty good righting their wrongs, however, it may take a few tries and some stubbornness on your part.

I’ll let you know if the second replacement MBP comes with the teeter-totter feature as well…lol
